Note: 3/5/12:
- It appears that Firefox 11 is not “happy” with JRE (Java) versions below 1.6.0_31 or between 1.7.0 and 1.7.0_2 (per their message at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p80). You may encounter blank screens or strange messages and cannot get to the Main Screen.
- The solution is to update the java plug-in. Go to java.com and click the “Free Java Download” button to do this. Mac users receive Java updates directly from Apple so use their normal software update process. Apple did release a Java update for OS 10.6 and 10.7.
- You may also need to re-allow pop-ups for ChemTracker if there is trouble accessing some functionality.
Below are the steps needed to prepare your Firefox (PC and Mac) to work with ChemTracker.
Note: your browser may already have some of these settings selected, but you should check to be certain.
- Disable Caching
If PC – select Options in the Tools menu. If Mac- select Preferences in the Firefox Menu.
Open the Advanced panel and click the Network tab. Enter a zero in the “Use up to” field to specify the size of the cache.

- Allow Cookies from CT
- Enable Java and JavaScript
Now select the Content tab, and check the check-boxes entitled “Enable Java” (if your version has this line) and “Enable JavaScript.”

- Allow CT Pop-ups
ChemTracker uses “pop up” windows to display certain types of information. All pop-up blockers must be turned off or otherwise disabled (i.e., allow pop-ups). Otherwise you may not be able to see the results of a query and other information, and ChemTracker will not work properly. If you are using a third-party application to block pop-ups, check with your local IT support for assistance to configure it to allow pop-ups from the three CT sites. At the Contents tab, press the Exceptions button for the checked “Block pop-up windows.”

Enter each of the following ChemTracker sites (we recommend you copy-and-paste to avoid typos), and press the Allow button:- https://chemtracker.stanford.edu
- http://chemtracker.stanford.edu

Close the window.
Or consult with your local IT support if you have the “Block pop-up windows” box unchecked and want to continue to keep the pop-up blocker off completely.

Press OK. - Restart computer
At this point your computer should be properly set up to run ChemTracker. Once you have confirmed or added the above settings, re-boot your computer, access and log in to your organization’s ChemTracker instance. If you have any difficulty with access or log-in, email ChemTracker Support at chemtracker_support@lists.stanford.edu.
